The Ramblings of the Author
In my late 30s, I visited Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where I went on a dog-sledding trip to a hot spring. Being pulled by dogs was incredible, and the surrounding mountain scenery was breathtaking. I believe the only ways to reach this mountain area are by dogsled or snowmobile—maybe cross-country skiing, but that’s quite a distance. I realized that living this kind of life requires good physical fitness. I was average and struggled to run through the deep snow at that elevation while the dogs pulled the sled. The Wild West certainly isn’t for the faint of heart. To survive, you must stay in excellent shape, or the land will quickly remind you of its power.
